VISIONING From
Environment to Sustainability: Envisioning
the Global Environment in 2025 Envisioning the Future Global Environment: GM-GIN Workshop Summary (Part 2 of 2, October 2001) During the two-day workshop, participants from GIN's International Planning Committee and from GM R&D discussed the potential implications of consumption, technology, and business polices and philosophies in four different scenarios or future worlds. Two surveys on critical global issues and forces of environmental change (see Part 1 above) provided a valuable source of research for the workshop. In addition to gaining insights into how major issues may evolve differently in the future, the combined group developed implications and options for GIN to advance an agenda for a positive global environmental future. Go to wiley.com The seventh International Conference of the Greening of Industry Network took place in Rome, Italy, November 15-18, 1998. Some 350 participants took part in five plenary sessions, 35 breakout sessions and workshops, to discuss the 150 papers and posters. The main theme of the conference was the engagement of partners in the transition of society towards sustainability. This transformation requires the cooperation, perseverance and dedication of all parties involved, and the development of new procedures, institutions and cultures needed for a productive cooperation. Options for this transformation and routes toward it were explored in the conference sessions and workshops devoted to building alliances in global, regional and local settings. $25.00 Summary Report. This conf erence report analyzes the different
pace at which various aspects of the industry-environment relation are
evolving. Within North America and Europe, there is a palpable sense of
progress among firms in environmental management whereas, elsewhere in
the world, the diffusion of environmental management practices is occurring
less rapidly. Also, industry attention is still very much focused upon
environmental management as opposed to the much more difficult challenge
of management for sustainability. The first section of this report reviews
the wealth of case study material presented at the conference on emerging
best practice in environmental management. The second segment reviews
the results of various analyses of the greening of industry on an intern
