BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Mexican Association of Engineering, Science and Environmental Management, is a non-profit technical and scientific civil association, which arose out of the need to constitute a frame of reference for the best technologies and leadership on the country's environmental issues.

It brings together specialists, academics, professionals, companies and students from areas related to engineering and environmental sciences.

AMICA is the Mexican chapter of the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering AIDIS, continuing the commitment assumed by its members in 1948.

AMICA National Congress

The Association is committed to holding the National Congress of Engineering, Science and Environmental Management every two years, which allows us to learn about the challenges Mexico faces in environmental matters and progress in meeting international sustainable development goals.

AMICA is the Mexican chapter of the Inter-American Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering AIDIS, continuing the commitment assumed by its members in 1948.

Previous editions of the congress

- The 1st Congress was held in Campeche in 2013 under the slogan "Building Pathways to Sustainability".

- 2nd Congress, held in Puebla in 2015 with the slogan "Innovation and commitments to environmental challenges".

- The 3rd Congress, held in Tabasco in 2017, with the slogan "North America and the Caribbean on the road to sustainable development".

Greening of Industry Network (GIN) is an international network of professionals in research, education, business, government and civil society organizations, focused on industrial development, environment and society, dedicated to building a sustainable future.

GIN has held numerous events around the world (forums, congresses, symposia, workshops) since its formation in 1991.

In Mexico specifically, there have been four events that are listed below:

  • 2007. International Symposium: Water and climate change: Research and Policy for Industrial Transformation.
  • 2009. 2nd International Symposium on Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable Development.
  • 2012. 3rd Conference: Public and private strategies for sustainable regional development.
  • 2015. International Symposium "Circular Economy Inspiring Sustainable Innovations".

In this sentiment, GIN has encouraged the publication of its event reports in different ways. An outstanding example is the publication of the series of books "Greening of Industry Network Studies" . Edited by Springer, this series explores topics such as circular economy, supply chains, eco-innovation, green growth and many others.

The 2012 event, the 3rd Conference: Public and private strategies for sustainable regional development published a special issue in the journal Management Research Review edited by Emerald Insight. At the 2015 event there was also a special issue.

Why should you attend?

The conference aims to establish itself as a forum for reference and innovation regarding environmental issues. It will be a 3-day event to be held at the Engineering Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in Ciudad Universitaria in Mexico City, from 28 to 30 October 2019.

In this edition, two congresses join forces: the AMICA National Congress and the GIN International Conference. This collaboration strives to promote the sharing of experiences, encourage discussions on advances in scientific and technical knowledge, and contribute to strategies that allow us to move towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, expand networks of contacts, and provide opportunities for research and learning.

The organizing committee encourages the participation of:

- Students: who will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and learn about cutting-edge innovations in the environmental field

- Academics: who will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to representatives of various sectors of high national and international level

- Industries and companies from all sectors: who will be able to participate by demonstrating the innovations that exist in their company and learn from the experiences and successes of others

- Decision-makers at the governmental: level, who will be able to present the efforts and results they obtain in terms of compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

- NGOs who will be exposed to cutting edge research and topics of interest at the national and international level.
